Friends of Noise provides programs, workshops, and other professional development opportunities for teens and young adults to gain experience with sound equipment, and performing so they are more prepared to navigate the music industry.
Amplify youth Voices
Friends of Noise provides resources, support and mentorship to youth that have something to say. The youth of our community have agency and the self determination to have a positive impact on our community now, not some for off future. So we aim to make sure that they are heard loud and clear.

Sound Squad Supreme is an exciting program for Portland-area teens aged 15-19 to get real world practical training in the art and science of live sound engineering from top professionals in the field.
Students attend a series of workshops on acoustics, gain, signal flow, setting up a PA system, and more — all with hands-on work with sound equipment. The series will culminate in a sound showcase where students run the sound for a performance or lead a recording session, depending on the program.
This is a one-of-a-kind chance for young musicians, music fans, engineers, technical artists and creative types of all kinds to learn a valuable, interesting and employable skill: how to make live music and amplified audio sound its best in performance settings.
Graduates of the Sound Squad Supreme workshop series may be offered opportunities to work at Friends of Noise shows at the Off Beat and with our Live Event Sound Services crew.
Who should apply: Youth 15-19 years old with an interest in music and production career paths.
This program prioritizes young people who live, work, play or attend church in North & North East Portland.
