What We Do

Professional Developement

Friends of Noise provides programs, workshops, and other professional development opportunities for teens and young adults to gain experience with sound equipment, and performing so they are more prepared to navigate the music industry.

Inclusive All Ages Shows

An integral core foundation to Friends of Noise is the belief that getting young performers and audience members involved in music is essential to the growth of the local and global music community. That’s why we create lineups with youth and adult artists to create a more diverse environment.

What we’ve been up to!

Friends of Noise team up with Young Audiences of Oregon and SW Washington to produce the Live SET workshop series and Showcase.

Live SET (Sound Engineering for Teens) was a 6 session workshop series that taught high school students the basics of live sound engineering. Students learned how to wrap cables, set up a PA, prevent feedback and so much more. At the final showcase the students transformed a gallery space at Oregon Contemporary into a small venue. We even had a ten year old DJ from Speck’s records on hand to keep the party going in between sets.

This is a great example of how strong partnerships can create amazing opportunities for personal and career growth for the youthat we work with. With your donation via the Willamette Week Give Guide we can continue to this work and see that the opportunities for the youth that we support are endless.

Check Out Youth Power PDX

They have not only provided the venues and shows but have given kids the opportunity to learn the business aspect of getting gigs, networking and promotion. It is amazing to see how much Friends of Noise has grown and how many students and young adults they have supported these past few years. Friends of Noise presence in the community has brought many youth together with mentors, other youth with the same goals and helped them develop skills needed to become future artist.
